Description

Bangkok’s easiest green getaway, Ko Kret is an artificial ‘island’, the result of a canal being dug nearly 300 years ago to shorten an oxbow bend in the Chao Phraya River. The island is also one of Thailand’s oldest settlements of Mon people, who were a dominant tribe of central Thailand between the 6th and 10th centuries AD. Today, Ko Kret is known for its rural atmosphere, its distinctive pottery and its busy weekend market. We will visit at:

  • Wat Poramaiyikawat Worawihan, the beautiful temple in Koh Kret, There is an important Buddha image of Nonthaburi situated in this temple which is Phra Nonthamunin. There is the attractive pagoda “Sloped Pagoda” you will see once you reach this temple , or even you may see it from far away when you are on the boat.
  • Wat Phai Lom, Another beautiful temple in Ko Kret, Wat Phai Lom. Mon people call this temple as “Phia To.” The temple was built in the late Ayutthaya period.
  • Wat Sao Thong Thong is on the Northern side of Ko Kret. Around the temple’s ordination hall there is a cluster of chedis built over 100 years ago.
  • Pottery Village, Koh Kret island is foremost famous for its unique Mon pottery heritage, the island inhabited long ago by Mon refugees after fleeing their homelands in Burma.
